Elijah’s Story

Elijah’s Story: Finding a home

When Stephanie got the call about a newborn baby named Elijah, she didn’t hesitate.

Just two days after he was born, Stephanie and her family made the decision to welcome Elijah into their home. They knew he had significant medical needs, but that wasn’t what made their decision.

As Stephanie put it,

“When I found out about Elijah’s birth and knew that his biological mom wouldn’t be able to care for him, we quickly as a family decided to take him in. His medical needs didn’t stop us from taking him in.”

Today, Elijah is seven months old and surrounded by a family that has embraced him as their own.

Stephanie’s home is always busy. Along with Elijah, she is raising six children ranging in age from 7 months to 19 years old. Every day is filled with school schedules, meals, appointments, diapers, and the countless responsibilities that come with caring for a large family.

Adding a medically complex infant to the mix brought challenges they never anticipated.

While Stephanie expected extra doctor visits and specialized care, she didn’t realize just how quickly the costs would add up.

“I didn’t realize all the expenses we would have to come up with and how much help we would need.”

One of the family’s greatest needs has been finding reliable nursing support.

With Elijah requiring specialized care, Stephanie spends much of her day balancing his medical needs while also making sure the rest of her children receive the love and attention they deserve.

Through the generosity of our donors, The Little Trachs Foundation was able to provide financial assistance for nursing care, giving Stephanie extra support as she continues caring for Elijah and her family.

When asked what the assistance meant, Stephanie shared simply:

“This will help tremendously to have a reliable nurse to help while I still care for Elijah and my other kids.”

Elijah may not have been born into Stephanie’s family, but he has been loved from the very beginning.

His story is a reminder that family isn’t defined only by biology.

Sometimes, it’s defined by the people who choose to show up, open their hearts, and say, “You’re coming home with us.”
